"jar of pencils"

Waldemar Ager was a Norwegian-American author and editor of a newspaper inEau Claire,Wisconsin.  He used a 42-caliber cartridge to hold pencils right down to the eraser end.  The final pencil was placed in this jar just prior to his retirement in 1941; he died one month later.

I took this photograph at the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum, in Decorah, Iowa, on March 27th, 2008, handheld, with a Canon 20D, at ISO 3200, 1/25th sec, f/5.0, using a 44.0mm focal length on the 28.0-135.0mm lens, and no flash.
